April 2014
Well folks, here we are into our final quarter and still no sign of spring. Meantime, the weather has not kept the Wing from being an active and lively place; what with our Dart League booked to capacity and our Bridge and Auction Afternoon Teas and other rentals bringing in good revenues. These events are very successful because of our hard working volunteers, headed up by Jeanne and Clayton.
Our Committees are busy trying to keep the Wing operating successfully, and our Ways and Means Committee are striving to keep our various events interesting and attractive for our members. Valentines Night is a great example of how a new and different type of event can bring in not only our members, but also a lot of interest from the outside public. The evening was hailed as super success with many accolades coming in. The Ways & Means Committee have put together a great program for the rest of the fiscal year. Starting with a TGIF Dinner on Friday, February 28th, followed up with another TGIF in March. Our ever popular Flipper/Prime Rib Dinner will be featured on April 22nd and the Dart League will be holding their end of the year party in May. Usually itís a BBQ. The Committee is working on the possibility of getting the "Generations" for our Regatta Day BBQ and Dance. We expect a sell-out again so donít get caught without a ticket.
Our Air Cadet Squadron has grown immeasurably over the last year, thanks to our C.O and the Air Cadet Sponsoring Committee. Also, two cadets and one officer have been chosen from our Squadron to attend the commemoration activities in France in June this year.
We still have a lot of work to do on the building. Painting and repair work is necessary and we will be calling on painters and repair people. All skills gladly accepted.
Also, as you know, we did not have any applicants for our Scholarship this year. Please pass the word to your families that we will be most likely awarding two scholarships in January 2015. It's too bad if we miss opportunities to help our grandchildren or nieces or nephews or even our children with tuition fees.
Our fund raising tickets are coming up to draw time. Please try and get them in on time. Who knows, you could be the winner!!!
In closing I must say I am grateful to all our volunteers for the hard work they consistently put out. Their perseverance, along with Jeanne and Claytons leadership, makes it all happen at 150 Wing.
Sincere best wishes to every one. Bill.
