October 2013
Well folks, our summer is now over and our fall program has begun.
The After Five groups are back on board with the Men's group starting with their first meal in September. The Ladies group will be starting their program on the first Tuesday of October. If you like to cook and eat great food, you could possibly join one of these groups or start another group. It's also a great way to spend an evening with fellow members.
The summer dart program was well attended and finished up the season with a great BBQ. The Mixed Dart program began on September 27 with one of the largest number of players participating in years.
Our Regatta Day BBQ was very well attended and a big success. While the Garden Party was not as successful as last year, we still had a fair showing from the public and received many accolades on the quality and size of our Turkey Teas. Many thanks to the organizers who worked so hard to bring this together.
This year's Battle of Britain Parade was one of the largest in years. Thanks to the Air Cadet Squadrons, ARAF and CFS St. John's and to Norm Macfie, MWO John Crotty, Major Eugene Walsh and Capt. Craig Stone. We were also pleased to have their honours Lt. Governor Frank Fagan and Mrs. Fagan in attendance at the reception we held afterwards at the Wing. Again, thanks to Jeanne and volunteers who produced a fine spread of finger foods.
The Bridge and Auction Afternoon Teas started on September 23rd with the highest number of players in attendance since we began this event three years ago. We are now at top capacity with a growing waiting list on hand. Many thanks to the team of volunteers along with Jeanne and Clayton, whose hard work makes this such a successful event.
Our fall program will continue with our Flipper/Prime Rib Dinner on October 23rd. This event is always a sell out and the tickets are already in demand and moving quickly. As we get into November, we will hold our Armistice Day Dinner and Dance, culminating at the end of the year with our New Year's Eve Gala.
I look forward to serving you as Wing President this year and I'm gratified to have the privilege of working with a great complement of Directors on the Wing Executive Council along with our volunteers, who are always ready to dig in and keep our Wing operating at an active and productive level.
Remember, if you have any concerns or suggestions, please don't hesitate contacting me or any of our Council members. See you at the Wing.
