September 2014
Summer is over, and what a wonderful summer we had. Lots of sunshine and warmth. Now our fall program is already underway.
First of all I want to thank the members of the Wing Executive Council and supporting volunteers for all their hard work, which culminated in another productive year for the Wing. The Regatta BBQ and Dance turned out to be a huge success again, attributed to a crew of hard working volunteers, along with Jeanne and Clayton. We had a great steak dinner and a great evening of dancing and fun. We hope our upcoming events will be equally successful. Please donít hesitate to bring guests to our functions. This not only increases the success of the event, but also attracts new members. Donít hesitate as well to offer suggestions to help make our program attractive and up to date. Our Wing offers a unique place where friendships and camaraderie are unequalled. Bring your friends Ė spread the word!!
The Battle of Britain remembrance will be held on Sunday September 21st and will include a church parade and wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial. A reception will follow at the Wing for participants. This is always a momentous event and makes us proud as we commemorate this most important time in the history of WWII.
Our Bridge and Auction Afternoon Teas are starting up again in September. This event is proving to be very popular and we have had calls over the summer to book tables ahead of time, with some new people signing up.
Our Dart League will be starting its fall program in September and the Ways & Means Committee will try to reinstate the TGIF program in October. The Summer Dart Program proved to be a great success and will no doubt be on again next summer.
Our social program will continue on with our Flipper Dinner in October. This event is always a sellout. As we get into November, we will hold our Armistice Day Dinner and Dance, culminating at the end of the year with our New Yearís Eve Gala. In the New Year, we plan to add some additional events like a Valentines Night in February. Again, we would appreciate your input.
On another note, as the Pleasantville development plan expands, we will eventually be losing a considerable piece of our parking lot. Meantime, as you may know, the provincial government has promised us that we can have joint use (with the Girl Guides Association) of the lot across the road. We donít expect this situation to develop very quickly, so over the summer, we had some gravel put down on the full lot to keep it accessible to our members and guests.
I look forward to serving you as Wing President again this year, working with such a great complement of Executive and volunteer members.
